Holiday joy fills the airport, packs a plane

Ho-ho-holiday joy filled the Pittsburgh-Butler Regional Airport this weekend as airport tenants, friends and neighbors filled one of Santa’s favorite airplanes for the local chapter of Toys for Tots.

More than 10 large boxes were stuffed during the airport’s “Pack A Plane” event held Saturday morning.

Community members donated new, unwrapped gifts and were treated to cookies, cocoa, coffee and colorful paper planes.

Santa’s sleigh was busy for the event. So a special thank you to Roy Uptegraff for lending his Cessna.

Also, a good share of the toys were collected prior to the event at the administration office as well as at High Flight Academy and AirQuest Aviation.

In addition to the toys, friends of Roy Uptegraff pledged more $300 in cash donation’s in the airport’s name and AirQuest collected more than $250 to be used to buy even more toys.

Thanks to everyone who pitched in to a successful event.

After the pubic event, yet another box of toys were contributed by airport tenants during the annual Christmas party at Serventi’s Ristorante.

More than five dozen attendees enjoyed theatmosphere and meatballs Serventi’s is famous for. Another special thanks to Joe Serventi and his team.

Door prizes included contributions from the Airport Authority, High Flight Academy and AirQuest Aviation. Winners were Jim Savage, Mike Axelrad, Eric Smith and Gary Marsico and Dan Boyle.
